Hello Dear Friends,
I hope that y’all are healthy and happy. We landed in St. George. All is well! Except that the kids haven’t had school since March 12th. That seems like a lifetime ago.
If any of you can relate to the endless school-less days, I thought you might like to know some of our favorite middle grade novels right now. These series have been HOURS of fantastic entertainment and much needed adventures for my children.
And if you have any good MG books you love, please share them with me!!
xoxo, Mary
Listed from Top to Bottom from the stack in the photo below. Clink the title for the link:
SUNNY SIDE UP – A graphic novel. I had to include at least one, because like everyone else, my kids LOVE their graphic novels.
THUNDER GIRLS – one of Rachel’s (11) favorite series. Ancient Norse Mythology retellings with awesome female heroines. We are big fans of Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams.
PAGES & Co. THE LOST FAIRY TALES – enchanting fairytale for all who love books and want to wander the pages with these “bookwanders.”
MAGNUS CHASE– How could I know include Rick Riordan? My kids are obsessed with all his books. They suggest starting with the first Percy Jackson, though.
THE KANE CHRONICLES – Rick Riordan takes us to Eypt in this series.
WHEN THE SEA TURNED TO SILVER- Lovely series!! Well written and uplifting and award winning. The first one is Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON – The books are even better than the movies. I promise
CHARMED – What could be more fun to read about than a fairy tale reform school?
THE MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY – for the mystery lovers! This book is full of resourceful characters and tricky clues.
FUN JUNGLE – another mystery that keeps the reader sucked in a guessing!
FARWORLD – High fantasy and serious action. This series is fast-paced and full of adventure.
TREASURE HUNTERS – James Patterson has engaged my reluctant 9 year old reader through all 12 of the books in this series. That’s impressive.
THE FALSE PRINCE- one of my personal favorites. This one is well written and captivating for all ages.
THE UNWANTEDS – “13 year olds are sorted into categories: the wanteds go to university, the unwanteds go to the grave….” Talk about a premise!
THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD AND EVIL – There is a reason this series is an NYT bestseller.
MISFITS – Jen Calonita does it again with this Royal Academy Rebels series.
RANGER’S APPRENTICE – A Classic. Even after all these years, I still remember the opening scene of book 1. It’s that good.
MICHAEL VEY- Last but not least. Funny and thrilling and action packed. Give to your reluctant 12-year-old and see what happens.
