Writing while quarantining has been so hard for me. My mind is a jumble, and my days are busy with children at home. I am used to having a few hours of quiet focus on school days to get out a few thousands words without too much hair pulling. That is not my life right now. I’ve been getting up at 6 am to get an good 90-120 minutes before the first child wanders upstairs hungry, but it’s still not my best working time. I’m tired, and I typically didn’t spend enough time before hand thinking about my story. (My mind is swallowed up with the day to day social distancing woes and homeschool struggles.) Most days, in the end, I’ve been reaching my goal of a mere 1000 words a day, but it’s PAINFUL.
I was doing some reading on Libraries of Hope, an amazing FREE online resource that is: “Dedicated to building a community of families who are learning to restore the lost arts of educating hearts.
We seek to preserve a culture of faith, freedom and family and a love of the good, the true and the beautiful.” And I found some fantastically interesting resources on writing by hand instead of on the computer. I’ve shared some of the links below, including a great Tedtalk by Jake Weidmann.
I started drafting these last few weeks by hand in a notebook and it has been such a breath of fresh air. The words are flowing again. I can’t even believe it.
So get out that paper and men and practice those letters, friends!
xoxo, Mary
